ShipMB.

What it does

You write a program in English, using the grammar ShipMB supports, and ShipMBLang compiles it and runs it locally. Grammar general-english-0.11 adds Otherwise if, Repeat N times, Append ... to a list, # comments, divided by, and What is ...? on the general profile.

New in 0.6.0

• Native vision: MiniCPM-V 4.6 runs inside the shipmblang process. shipmblang setup --vision installs it.
• Portable Windows zip: a folder you unzip on Windows 10 or 11 x64, with no Python install.
• Standalone executable: one file compiles and runs programs with no Python install.
• shipmblang setup: installs missing Rust, FFmpeg (with ffprobe), VLC, and Ollama from their official sources.
• Media duration: Probe "clip.mp4" and show the duration. compiles. Running it needs FFmpeg and ffprobe.
• Notebook and editors: shipmblang notebook opens saved notes as chat rooms, and shipmblang lsp gives editors diagnostics, hover, and compile/run.

Install and set up

First run

Save Show 27. as hello.shipmb, then run:

shipmblang --version
shipmblang hello.shipmb --format text

That prints 27. shipmblang setup --check only reports which tools are missing.

Native vision on Windows

Native vision runs MiniCPM-V 4.6 inside the shipmblang process. There is no separate server, and after setup a vision program does not use the network.

• Setup downloads two files from Hugging Face (openbmb/MiniCPM-V-4.6-gguf), checks each size and SHA-256, then quantizes the projector on your machine with llama-quantize.
• On Windows the weight files are stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\shipmblang\vision. SHIPMB_VISION_MODEL_DIR overrides that folder.
• shipmblang setup --vision --check reports what is missing without downloading anything.
• Images can be PNG, JPEG, GIF, or BMP. Write paths with forward slashes. An answer uses at most 16 tokens, so a longer sentence can stop early.
• The Windows x64 build uses Visual Studio 2022 (or Build Tools) with the MSVC x64 toolset and the static C runtime.
• The latency target is a warm 95th percentile under 2 seconds.

Run it with shipmblang photo.shipmb --format text. Linux is verified, Windows x64 is supported, and macOS comes later.

Size and requirements

The Tk notebook window and shipmblang editor are not in the portable zip. Notes stored in sqlite still work.
